Registration is $4,000 for an all-inclusive two-week residential pre-college experience. Pacific alumni parents and grandparents, families of current Pacific undergraduate students, and current Pacific employees qualify for a $500 discount. There is also an automatic $500 discount for registering more than one student (or one student for more than one session) from the same family. Discounts cannot be combined. You can submit the full payment later by choosing a $500 non-refundable deposit to secure your student's place in the Institute.

Each program runs for two weeks and students within a given session (Session 1 is June 7–17 and Session 2 is June 21–July 1) register for one particular program. Arts and Humanities

Session 1 (June 7–17)

2D Art Studio

Work with faculty from the Department of Art, Media, Performance and Design to learn how to create artwork using across multiple mediums such as painting, illustration and printmaking. Partake in a hands-on tactile creative studio experience in the most inspirational art facility in the region. The projects will be showcased in the Reynolds Gallery at the end of the Institute.

3D Art and Animation

Step into the exciting world of creating 3D artwork and animations to bring your ideas to life! This is your chance to create your own superhero, villain, or even creature from another dimension, all while learning the fundamentals of visual storytelling and 3D art production.

Acting for the Stage

Acting for the Stage introduces students to live performance. They explore core acting tools—voice, body, and imagination—to bring characters and stories to life. Students learn to create believable roles, connect emotionally in a scene, and collaborate onstage. Through movement and voice work, improvisation and short performances, they discover how focus, intention and bold choices engage an audience.

Blogs, Vlogs, Podcasts and Reels

What makes a popular blog or vlog? How do reels and podcasts go viral? Students in this program develop skills to create entertaining, informative and concise reports on the daily activities of the Summer Institute. During their time together, students practice writing professionally for the 21st Century, which includes a multimodal approach on blogs, vlogs, podcasts, and reels.

Ceramics Studio

Work with faculty from the Department of Art, Media, Performance and Design to create pottery and sculptures out of clay. Students will learn wheel throwing, hand building and other techniques. They will also take part in a kiln firing. This will be a hands-on tactile creative studio experience in the most inspirational art facility in the region.

Creating Media

In this program, offered by Pacific's Art, Media, Performance and Design Department, students gain the knowledge and skill sets needed to create videos for social media and future ambitions in filmmaking/videography.

Creative Writing and Storytelling

In this two-week educational journey, we will immerse ourselves in and learn about the power of imagination, creativity and storytelling. Whether through poetry or novels, music or spoken word, Superbowl commercials or political speeches, fiction or nonfiction, good storytelling shapes the way we see the world.

Graphic Design for Social Media

Step into the exciting world of digital advertising! In this high-energy program, high school students design dynamic social media ads for a local business, gaining hands-on experience with real-world digital campaigns.

Making Comics

Dive deep into the world of making comics! We’ll start with drawing games and exercises that spark your imagination and facilitate judgement-free creation. We’ll progress to workshopping original characters and storylines to make hand-drawn comic strips and zines.

Music Industry

Explore the world of sound design, recording, publishing, licensing and other dimensions that drive America's $900 billion creative sector economy. The music industry program is based at Pacific's recording studios and taught by the university's renowned Conservatory of Music faculty.

Graphic Design for Social Media

Instrumental Music

String, woodwind, brass, and percussion musicians will learn in an immersive program that includes ensemble, instrument-specific masterclasses and lessons, and related topics including composition, improvisation and conducting. Ensemble music will be flexible in instrumentation, designed around the students registered for the Summer Institute.

Jazz

The purpose of this program is to give high school musicians the opportunity to develop skills in the area of jazz through big band and small group performance as well as instrument specific masterclasses. Friends and family are invited to join us for a final performance at the end of the two-week session.

Music Video Production

Turn music into visual storytelling. In this hands-on program, students explore how sound, performance, and filmmaking come together to create compelling music videos. Working with music across a range of styles—from popular and jazz to classical—students develop concepts, plan and film performances, and shape their work through cinematography, audio, directing, and editing.

Musical and Vocal Arts

The Musical and Vocal Arts program offers an enriching, immersive singing-and-theatre experience housed in the oldest Music Conservatory on the U.S. West Coast. Alongside individual voice instruction and musicianship training, students receive focused acting, movement, and dance work—scene study, character development, ensemble storytelling, and audition technique—so they learn to command the stage as well as the score.

Piano

Entry-level and developing pianists are invited to explore the possibilities of the piano. In working with each pianist, we'll cover musicianship, technique and healthy approaches to playing, practice habits, memorizing, nerves and ensemble playing.

Spanish for the Health Professions

Improve your speaking and comprehension skills in Spanish while developing the cultural knowledge that is critical to becoming a better healthcare provider to your future patients. The course is designed to prepare health professionals across disciplines (speech and language pathology, physician assistant, nursing, pharmacy, dentistry, etc.) to effectively communicate with Spanish-speaking patients in hospitals and clinics.

Writing and Publishing Your Novel

In a program that covers novel writing from concept to publication, you will learn to craft your characters, create the world they live in and construct plots that keep readers hooked. The program also covers the business end of publishing: how to get an agent and publisher or how to self-publish, and how to market your work. Students work closely with other talented students and visiting published novelists to form a supportive writing community.
